Saturday: Cherylyn decided to fly us over to USA for some New York Pizza!

Ok la, it was actually in Century Square. Hur Hur Hur.

(I can’t believe I’m blogging like Cherylyn now….ok, snap back to reality)

This is the size of the thin-crust pizza for 1 person. Pretty reasonable rate of $2.80 to $4.30 for 1 slice without the meal, though my only complaint would be the layer of cheese is pretty thin, and no extra cheese powder was provided.

Hawaiian Pizza

.
Sunday: Celebrated Imran’s belated birthday! Here’s what he have to say about our close-knit group:

the cheeseballs buddies who decided to go to Taiwan and KL on my birthday weekend!

Ah, that’s nice to hear. :P

Walked around Siglap, before settling with Werner’s Oven for some German Cuisine.

Since it was Imran’s treat, it was a pretty simple decision to make when we glanced through the menu: The Most Expensive Dish aka Schlachplatte!

The-what?

1 pork knuckle, 1 smoked sausage, 1 farmers’ sausage, 1 wild garlic sausage, 2 kassler, 2 nurnbergerle, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and brezel. Stated in menu that it’s meant for 3….I think it meant “For 3 Germans with extremely large appetite.”

From their website:

Opening Hours: Tue – Sun, 8:30am – 10:00pm [closed on Monday]

6 Upper East Coast Road #01-01/02
Singapore 455200
Tel: 64423897
Fax: 64494613

Getting to Werner’s Oven by driving/taxi -

From ECP:
1) Exit at SIGLAP RD Exit
2) Turn right on 2nd traffic light to East Coast Road
3) Keep right, look for Werner’s Oven on the right located on the ground level of a 4 storey beige and white walk-up apartment
4) Turn right into carpark

Malaysia Trip: Day 3! July 30, 2006

(Click here for Day 1 & Day 2)

Before I began recalling Day 3, I’ve just received LL’s photos. Could someone explain to why all of us except Kel look invisible? The camera was resting on the table, which wasn’t shaking, and it can’t be due to the reflection off the table…so why?

Shhh…7th month…

.
We gave in to our exhaustion from the past 2 days, and woke up only at 10am. Less than 2 hours to check out, so we’ve rather take our time to clean & pack up, check out, then enjoy our breakfast.

View from the gals’ room. You can see that Times Square is within walking distance.

Our room, with 2 queen size beds. Total Cost for 2 rooms for 3D2N (incl. tax & other misc, since we booked online, not via agencies) was RM1,380.

Please take note of the payment when you pay via Credit Card. The exchange rate which you’ll be paying to the bank will be worse. The current rates at the moment are S$1 = RM2.32, but when Kel’s bill came, the bank charged us S$1 = RM2.28…..

1 last time at the lobby

Our final meal in KL was at Super Noodle House, located at the Lower Ground Floor of Sungei Wang Plaza.

Ordered Dim Sum & Noodles. Average, though noodles were a tad too oily for my liking. Pricing’s similar to Singapore, but at least we have a decent meal before we head back to Singapore.

Hungry yet?

Squeezed in some last-min shopping for clothes and food, before we bid farewell to the capital of Malaysia.

Imagine our surprise when our coach came:

Our ride home

Sitting on the upper deck means you’ll feel the shaking of the bus worse than the lower deck when you encountered a bump on the road….hence, this means another 5 hours of sleepless-on-a-tour-bus trip.

So we’ve began testing each others’ knowledge with games like “Brands of Cars“, “Cities in USA“, etc. until someone couldn’t come up with an answer, and the ultimate winner is declared.

Pretty much like Primary School field trip, eh?

At least I’ve learnt that:

– JH is CRAZY about France. Memorize the entire France squad numbers…remembered how many times they’ve wore white in the World Cup….countries surrounding France….
– LL is quiet most of the time, until “Brands of sweets/choclates” was chosen…
– Kel & JH knows their China histories (“Cities in China“, “Jing Yong (金庸) Novels“, “Martial Arts found in Jing Yong novels“…)
– Gals rule in fashion, hands-down. (“High-end Fashion brands“…they just uttered ever single shop found in KLCC.)
– XY is the Queen of cartoons (“Cartoon/Animation Movies“)
– Xi Nai Da Fa (吸奶大法) is NOT an actual Martial Arts moveset.

.
Thus, this concludes the end of our vacation in KL. Had a GREAT time during the holiday….so when’s our next one? Shall it be at Bintan? :D

Malaysia Trip: Day 2! July 29, 2006

View from the guy’s room

Day 2 began at 7.30am, when we dragged ourselves out of the comfy bed with about 5 hours of sleep (Holidays are meant to have fun, not sleep!), took a cab & headed right to…

…the Petronas Twin Towers!

The sky bridge tour is limited to 1,400 visitors per day, and it’s on a first-come-first-served basis. What we didn’t expect was the crowd size awaiting outside the office at 8.30am, when the office just opened their doors:

Whatever happened to Lazy Sunday?

To reduce queuing size, the 2 gentlemen volunteered with the strenuous task of waiting, while the ladies scour around for a breakfast location. It took us slightly more than 2 hours before we met up again, with our morning’s objective achieved!

2 hours of pain for 10 mins of joy

Dome Cafe was the prefered choice for our morning meal over the nostalgic A&W, as it offered more variety. (Let’s see….A&W have Waffle…Cony Dogs…Waffle….more Waffle…)

Ate the yummy Big Breakfast meal…Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten to take a photo of it. Nevertheless, here’s something else to whet your appetite!

Free Water

Since the tour was hours away, we’ve continued our shopping expenditure in KLCC. Not much shops for the men to visit, with Isetan basically containing most of the bargains which is within the guys’ price range. Bought a few polo tees, and grabbed a pair of jeans before it was time to head up the Sky Bridge!

View from the entrance of the bridge

The 58.4 metre sky bridge at levels 41 and 42 links the Twin Towers. The unique double-deck sky bridge stands 170 metres above street level with its arch support forming a symbolic gate way to the city centre. For the tour, we’ve only visited the 41st floor.

View from the bridge

Briefly chatted with the guide that brought us up about the visiting hours, since I was curious that despite being close to the end of the queue, we were given a mid-day slot, and visiting hours were from 8am to 5pm (except Mondays, when it’s closed).

She mentioned that the queues are cut in the morning to prevent over-crowding in the enclosed area. Once the last person has taken the tickets, and there are still some remains, the queue will be re-opened for the public once again.

So this means that either:

1) Queue before 8.30am to avoid disappointment, and get a late-morning/early-afternoon timeslot.

2) Queue after 11am to get a late-afternoon timeslot, but not 100% guarantee of getting tickets, as there could be bookings made by schools or societies during those time-slots. (From what I remembered, tour agencies aren’t allowed to book.)

Kel, Me, JH, LL, XY

Can you figure whose feet are those?

Lunch was at the disappointing Genki Sushi. The place wasn’t packed at 3pm, yet we had our orders misplaced twice within an hour, wasn’t informed that there was no Hana Maki until I’ve asked the 3rd time, and no apologies were given for all the mistakes made. Extremely poor service.

.
Combed through all the shops at KLCC, before heading back to Times Square/Bukit Pintang for more shopping! Eat-shop-eat-shop-….

Eat!

Supposed to head towards Chinatown for hawker food, but the Free Appetizer card given by the manager at Outback Steakhouse (at BB Park) & the temptation of Cheese Fries/Bushman Shrooms won us over. Mmmmmm….

Despite our stomach being filled to the brim with all the sinful food, we still have to make room for 1 more dessert-of-the-day…

HAPPY ADVANCED BIRTHDAY, XING YAN!

Ended the night playing Kings-and-Assholes (was King for 14 games, before Prince Kel made me lose while giving in to 楊貴妃-XY….-_-”)

.
Shall conclude Day 3 tomorrow!

You know, this trip nearly didn’t happen. With project deadlines, other overseas commitments, frequent change of plans, tsunami, rashes, transport & accommodation worries, we could have made a movie just like “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”.

I smell a sequel…

Like all fairy tales, it came to a happy ending, and we set off to Kuala Lumpur for our extremely-belated Graduation Trip!

The five-some (clockwise from top-left): Kel, Me, LL, XY, JH

Tried sleeping throughout the journey as I didn’t slept well the night before due to diarrhea, but the bus wasn’t as comfy as it should be. (If I can sleep on an SBS bus, I should be able to sleep on a traveling coach…right?)

The on-board entertainment…well, there wasn’t any. 1st time I’ve stoned through half the journey in dead silence, before Kel provided us with some entertainment.

Whoopie…

The only other excitement which the bus trip conjured up was this HUGE fish that we saw at Yong Peng. Without the bus driver disappearing for half an hour instead of 10 minutes, we wouldn’t have time to slowly enjoy the sceneries.

Spot the fish…

Reached our hotel, Grand Plaza Park Royal, at 2.30pm, but was unable to check in yet as they were preparing for our room. We were ushered into the lounge for some free beverages. Well, at least they gave us something to do while we wait…

The lounge

& this is how you stir a coffee…

Rather than wasting time waiting, the famished five headed out in search of delicious cusine. Since I’ve been to KL more often than the rest, I brought them to the most famous restaurant that I could recall.

WTF?

3 times I’ve been to KL, and 3 times I’ve sat at the same place, eating the same type of meal. Hey, at least it’s cheaper than Singapore. :P

Wanting to check in our hotel, we’ve decided to take a shortcut thru BB Plaza…only to see “SALE” posters plastered in every shop.

That’s right, we reached KL on the very 1st day of the Grand KL Sale!!!!

So our “shortcut” became a huge detour, as we spent 1 whole hour in just 1 store (CK Tang?), while another 1 hour+ in Times Square touring the basement. (FYI, there’s plenty of bargains for men, esp. office wear at Debenhams Department Store. Unfortunately, I’ve heard that they’re closing at the end of July…)

One of the many shirts which I’ve tried on….unfortunately, didn’t have my size

The vigorous activity wore us out yet again, and soon, we were in need of food and rest. Using the theory “Crowded = Good”, our dining choice was:

MORE CHICKEN!!!

We swore not to eat any more chicken for the rest of the trip.

The serving sequence was weird…they gave the chicken 1st instead of the appetizers. When asked about the rest of the meal, all we’ve gotten was a “Coming” response. Ah well, when one’s hungry, it doesn’t really matter…

.
After which, we should be heading back to our hotel for rest, right?

Nope, 1 more bargain left for us to grab…..Movies! (RM9, with comfortable seating and viewing pleasure compared to Singapore…which cost doubled. *shakes head*)

If you have watched “Il Mare”, then you would have known the whole story. This Hollywood version follows the exact same formula from its adaptation, which is about 2 people falling in love…only to be separated by 2 years.

America critics lambasted the movie, stating that “The plot is a little too convoluted.” I say that’s pure bullshit. Physics silliness aside, The Lake House is easily the best romantic film so far of 2006. Save your money from “Lady in the Water”, and watch this instead.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

.
We headed back to our rooms after the movie (Guys 1 room, Gals 1 room…sadly, different floors too). Kel and I took 45 mins each to soak in the bathtub. Figuring that the gals might be taking a much longer time to bathe, we’ve decided to give them a call, just to check on them….

…at 2am.

Kel: Hello?
XY: (sleepy voice) Huh?
Kel: You all sleeping ah?
XY: Ya la….why?
Kel: Aww, cos just now nvr wish you goodnight….so I called to wish you goodnight lor.
XY: HUH?
Kel: Ok, Good Night.
XY: Nite…

Sadly, our plot was exposed, as XY could hear my uncontrollable laughter at the background….

.
That’s it for Day 1! I’ll continue Day 2 in another entry! :D

While I’m awaiting for the photos to arrive (downloading Jia Hao’s ones as I’m typing), might as well bring in some entertainment.

From F.I.R latest album, here’s the “飞行部落” MV

看著前面 有一片荒原
你在我右边 我觉得体贴
灰色阴天 像挡在前面
该走到哪里 才有世界

忽然我们的心跳 频率相同像一起奔跑 现在我要你知道

这是我们的讯号 O Hi Yai Yai Ho Ha
飞行部落的那边 梦不再遥远
找回天空的隧道 O Hi Yai Yai Ho Ha

O Hi Yai Yai Ho Ha
飞行部落的那边 梦不再遥远
找回天空的隧道 O Hi Yai Yai Ho Ha
曾流过的眼泪 变成灿烂画面 我会看见
